Revelation 21:5
Then He who sat on the throne said, "Behold, I make all things new." And He said to me, "Write, for these words are true and faithful."
I love new things! No matter how small or large they may be, there is just something about things that are brand new, something that no one has ever used before. I recently bought a ‘new’ G1 cell phone so I could receive all of my emails on my phone and my calendar would be accessible to me via my phone or my computer. What an exciting day that was for me, anticipating unwrapping the package, trying it out for the first time and everything else that comes with new things. These new phones were so much in demand that I had to drive to another city just to get one of the few that were left.
Now, no matter how much I may love my new phone, it isn’t new anymore. I still like it, but the day will come when it will break. So sure am I that day is coming, that I purchased insurance so when it does break down, I can get another one to replace it. In other words, everything that is new will soon become old. Nothing this side of heaven is exempt.
As we come upon the end of yet another year, and the beginning of 2009 and the New Year, we would do well to reflect on the only thing that never gets old. The joy of our salvation! We mustn’t ever forget the new life we received when we first trusted in Christ as our Lord and Savior. Even though this old body is far from being new, we have a never aging ‘new life’ that was infused with in us the moment we were born again, and it will never come to an end. In fact, we look forward to that new heaven and new earth that the apostle John tells us about when he recorded the words of Jesus, “Behold, I make all things new. Write, for these words are true and faithful.” What a great way to start out the New Year: trusting in the true and faithful words of Jesus!
Father, we thank you for your words that bring us such encouragement. Thank you that when all else is getting old and breaking down, we do not despair. Thank you that we not only have the newness of life within us, but that we have eternity with you to look forward to, the day when all things will be new. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
I pray that you have a wonderful New Year. No matter what may have happened in 2008, God is faithful. May you look forward to the New Year knowing that you have the newness of life within and the certainty of heaven to come.
Have a blessed New Year!
