Numbers 33:50-53
50 Now the LORD spoke to Moses in the plains of Moab by the Jordan, across from Jericho, saying, 51 "Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them: 'When you have crossed the Jordan into the land of Canaan, 52 then you shall drive out all the inhabitants of the land from before you, destroy all their engraved stones, destroy all their molded images, and demolish all their high places; 53 you shall dispossess the inhabitants of the land and dwell in it, for I have given you the land to possess.
As I have been reading through Leviticus and numbers I have been struck by all of the intricate details of the sacrifices, offerings and feasts and as a result I have become so grateful for Jesus Christ and the grace of the New Covenant. We would all be in a heap of trouble without it. When you consider 1 Samuel 15:22, Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice…, you realize that the Lord longs for us to obey so that He can bless.
God established a land “flowing with milk and honey” for the children of Israel to possess and yet they chose to walk in disobedience. The result was wandering in the desert for 40 years. I wonder how often we do the same. The Lord longs to bless us and yet we experience wandering because we have failed to obey. Have we destroyed all of the ‘molded images’ and ‘high places’ in our lives so that we may receive the ‘land’ that the Lord has given us to possess? The sooner we do, the sooner we can receive the riches that Paul spoke of in Ephesians 3:16…that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory.
Father, search our hearts and give us the faith to allow you to wipe out those things in our heart that separate us from you. Thank you for your mercy and grace that comes through Jesus. May we never forget the blessings that are available through our obedience. Thank you for continuing to love us the way that you do…In Jesus, Amen.
May you continue to grow in your determination to honor the Lord in your life, your work and your families. He longs to reveal the riches of His glory to you as you desire to obey Him.
