Psalm 17:4-5
Concerning the works of men, by the word of Your lips, I have kept away from the paths of the destroyer. Uphold my steps in Your paths, that my footsteps may not slip.

Every once in awhile, when we leave for the day, we will forget to leave any lights on in the house and have to go through a very dark garage upon returning home. It is always a challenge getting from the garage door to the steps leading to the door going into the house. Sometimes I just slowly have to work my way towards the steps…being ever so careful that I don't trip over some garden tool that I failed to put away. When I have it with me, I use a little light that is attached to my key chain. It is not very big…but it effectively lights my path and gets me to my destination without falling over something and breaking my neck. That tiny little light is a safeguard to me when I am walking in the dark. On more than one occasion we read that God's word is the light that directs our paths. We read in Psalm 119:105, Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. If we want to insure that we are kept away from the paths of the destroyer…we must make sure that we are adhering to the word of God's lips. God's word illuminates our paths in a way that directs us to and keeps us in His perfect will. Without His word…we lean unto our own understanding and we all know how disastrous that can be. Our lives are surrounded by decisions…they are all around us. Some are much bigger than others and God wants to be involved in every one of them. So the next decision you find yourself needing to make…look to God's word. Ask yourself, "What does the word of God say I should do.". In one way or another…you will find that it addresses every decision you would ever have to make. When you wait patiently, searching His word for the answer, you will find that you will never have to worry about breaking your neck…even when you leave those garden tools lying around.


Father, thank you so very much for the confidence we can take in your word. Thank you for the way it keeps us away from the paths of the destroyer and upholding our steps. May we cling to Your every word…knowing that as we do we insure that we will make the right decisions. In Jesus' name we pray…Amen!
