Jeremiah 17:7-8
Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, And whose hope is the LORD. For he shall be like a
tree planted by the waters, Which spreads out its roots by the river, And will not fear when
heat comes; But its leaf will be green, And will not be anxious in the year of drought, Nor will
cease from yielding fruit.
It is amazing how encouraging and comforting God’s word is to us. Certainly it is everything that it claims to be. I
read this bit of Scripture shortly after praying with my daughter for some surgery she was going to be having that
afternoon. It was early in the morning and as she lay in bed…with my hand on her head and my face close to hers, I
confidently and methodically prayed for the Lord’s hand to be upon her…in every respect. I prayed that the Lord, who
is the Divine Physician, would direct the anesthesiologist and the surgeon and that the Lord would encourage and
comfort her in her anxiousness. I prayed confidently knowing that my prayer was falling on the receptive heart of
Jesus who is always willing to respond in accordance with His perfect and loving will. Shortly after my prayer, I
read this Scripture and was greatly encouraged. God is so faithful to encourage us during times of anxiousness.
Times when we do not know what the outcome will be. When we pray during such times we are expressing our trust and
hope in the LORD. What a blessed comfort to be able to trust the Lord with the things that are most precious to us.
When we do so, any anxiousness we might have experienced is replaced with the peace of God which passes all
understanding. We don’t have to know the outcome of our concerns when we trust the Lord. We can leave all of that
in the hands of the one who knows the end result of all things…even before things have taken place.
Dear Lord…thank you for the encouragement of Your Word which reminds us to trust you. Thank you for the
way you dispel fear and anxiousness. Help us to grow in our confidence that you are always more than willing and
eager to respond to our concerns. Thank you for the hope we have in you and the promise that you will work all
things out for your good purpose. In Jesus’ name…Amen.
I pray that you have a glorious week of trusting the Lord. I pray that the Lord will encourage you in all of those
things that have been weighing heavy on your heart. You may not know what the outcome will be…but have no fear…the
Lord knows and things are going to be alright. It is His promise!
