God is my Rock

Psalm 18:2
The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

All of my life I have had skinny wrists and fairly weak arms. Don’t know why…it is just the way God made me and I have learned to accept it. I always dreaded my physical education classes in school…especially when it came time for the annual PE test. “Oh no”, I would think, “I am going to have to jump up and grab the bar and kick my feet with everything I have… to do maybe one little pull-up.” I remember sometimes even trying to get that first pull-up by jumping hard enough that I would thrust my chin to the top of the bar. Unfortunately, my PE teacher was all too familiar with that trick. If my school year failures weren’t bad enough…when I got into the army there was a chin-up bar at the entrance to the mess hall where I had the opportunity to display my weak arms a couple of times a day. No pull-ups…no eating! What could be worse than kicking those army boots in front of your fellow soldiers being trained to defend our country at a moments notice? In spite of our weaknesses, the Psalmist reminds us, The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer. God is our strength and our stronghold in every situation, no matter how physically, emotionally or spiritually strong or weak we may be. And it is in Him alone that we must place our trust. Psalm 18:3 says, “I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised; So shall I be saved from my enemies.” We must always remember, He is always ready and willing to deliver us from our enemies…deliver us from every situation we find ourselves in. Why? This is so awesome! He delivered me because He delighted in me. Psalm 18:19. Oh how we must keep this glorious truth in the forefront of our minds and written on the tablets of our hearts. The Lord watches over us…because He delights in us. When I was nervously dreading that PE test and those pull-ups before my meals…My God, my strength, in whom I will trust…was beaming from ear to ear…delighting in me!

Oh Lord, how good you are to love us the way that you do. May the Holy Spirit remind us that you are always our strength and our protector from enemies because you delight in us. We praise you for the manifestation of such delight, through the gift of your Son Jesus. In His name we pray…Amen!

Have a great week in spite of your weaknesses…knowing that you are God’s delight!
