His Indescribable Gift!

2 Corinthians 9:15
Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!

I will always remember the day my step-father came home from work and asked me to help him unload some things out of the trunk of the car. When I went to help him, there in the trunk was a 'Man from U.N.C.L.E.' gun. I know that many, if not most, of you may not remember the 'Man from U.N.C.L..E' television show. It was a James Bond espionage type of series without all the junk, but with all of the secret agent gadgets that included the coolest automatic pistol that would convert into a rifle. I could not believe my eyes when I looked into the trunk of the car. What really blew me away is that it wasn't Christmas, it wasn't my birthday, it wasn't any special occasion. He just bought me a gift that he knew I would enjoy, and enjoy I did, I was the envy of the neighborhood. In fact, on a rare occasion, for whatever reason, I will still think of that toy gun, and wish I had one today.

We have all received those certain gifts which we might refer to as 'indescribable gifts', but none come close to the indescribable gift that Paul writes about in this verse. It is that gift which far surpasses any other gift, for it is the gift of eternal life. We read in Ephesians 2:8, For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God. What made that toy gun such a wonderful gift is that there was absolutely nothing that warranted my receiving it, and so it is with God's gift of salvation through Jesus Christ.

We must keep ever before us the awareness of this amazing gift, made possible by the sacrificial death of God's son. Having received this gift by faith, through absolutely nothing we have done, makes it the most amazing gift we could ever receive. Oh that our hearts would be filled with boundless gratitude for the gift of our salvation, for by it we are assured of eternity with our God!

Father, thank you for the gift of salvation, for the assurance of eternity, through our faith in Jesus Christ. We could never thank you enough for the sacrifice that was made for us that we might receive such an 'indescribable gift'. May the Holy Spirit bring to mind this wonderful truth throughout our week. In Jesus' glorious name, Amen!

I pray that your week would be richly blessed and your heart filled with thanksgiving as you reflect on your salvation. May you be in awe of the goodness of God to have given you His son in exchange for the sin which once separated you from God.
