| The Magnificence of God's Word |
|
Psalm 138:1-3
I will praise You with my whole heart; before the gods I will sing praises to You. I will worship
toward Your holy temple, and praise Your name for Your lovingkindness and Your truth; for You have
magnified Your word above all Your name. In the day when I cried out, You answered me, and made me
bold with strength in my soul.
I never grow tired of appreciating the value of God's word in our lives. Every time I read
it I discover how it truly is living and active, judging the thoughts and the attitudes of
my heart. This can be a scary thing if a person isn't interested in the things of God.
But when we give Him control of our lives we can be encouraged that He will use His word
to lead us in everything we face on a day to day basis. I take so much comfort knowing
that His word comforts and soothes and directs us in each and every situation. The latter
part of verse two really blows me away…for You have magnified Your word above
all Your name. How can anything be magnified above the name of the Lord?
As I meditate on this verse I realize that it is a truth inherent to the character of God.
His word is truth, never changing, always dependable…as is His name. Everything that comes
from the mouth of God supports everything that He is. His word (everything in the Bible)
corresponds with His very nature. He magnifies His word above his name because everything
in the bible ultimately points to Him. Oh that we might long to grasp the profound truths
that lie in the timeless pages of the scriptures. As we do, we will be strengthened and
encouraged beyond our wildest imagination!
Father, we do magnify you and all of your words. Indeed, they are a lamp unto
our feet…directing our steps. May we be faithful to stay on course to all that you say,
never veering to the left or to the right. May we grow in our desire to be consumed by it
that we might daily discover the riches of You. In Jesus' name…Amen.
May your week be filled with new and exciting revelation from His word. He loves you beyond measure.
