Serve God Acceptably

Hebrews 12:28-29
Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. For our God is a consuming fire.

As I have been studying through Exodus I am reminded that from the very beginning the Israelites began to grumble against God within a very short time of seeing His mighty hand in delivering them from the Egyptians. It is easy to get caught up in grumbling because of our circumstances. However, when we consider the depth of this verse and the truth that...we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken...we are more apt to serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. It is sobering when we take the time to realize that the same God who miraculously parted the Red Sea to deliver the Israelites, the God who is a consuming fire, is the same God who bears with us beyond comprehension, pouring out his mercy and grace upon us...putting up with our complaining...unconditionally loving us. Oh that we would focus less on all of our 'inconveniences' on this side of heaven and more on the coming kingdom which cannot be shaken.

Father in heaven, we ask that by the Holy Spirit we might come into that deeper understanding of the eternal. And that it would translate to Godly service that is acceptable to you. That our service would have nothing to do with our tendency to want to earn favor...and everything to do with your mercy and grace. Thank you for loving us the way you do...and for your willingness to defend us against those undetected enemies who desire to destroy our testimony. In Jesus name we pray...Amen

I pray that you will be encouraged today to serve the Lord with your whole heart, mind and strength and that you would let Jesus consume you, molding you and fashioning you into His image. Knowing that it is then that we will effectively serve and minister to others.
