Psalm 116:1-2
I love the LORD, because He has heard, My voice and my supplications. Because He has inclined His ear to me, Therefore I will call upon Him as long as I live.
My wife is undoubtedly the best listener that I have ever known. I cannot tell you the number of times that I have asked her to listen to part of a message I was working on, or to a particular part of a book I was reading, or any number of things. I don't think I can remember a time when she didn't listen. When I have finished sharing with her, or reading to her, I can always tell she really listened because she will ask me questions or respond, with clarity, to any questions I might have regarding what I just read. When I talk with her, I know that she is listening and because she listens, I know that she cares about me and loves me. This is one of the many things I love about her.
All people want to be listened to. It is why so many people spend thousands upon thousands of dollars on counselors, psychologists and psychiatrists. They know that for a specific period of time, they have these people's undivided attention. They know that they will genuinely try and respond to their deepest emotional needs. It is why chat rooms on the internet, cell phones and any number of vehicles for communicating are so popular. People are determined to find a place where they can be heard. It is an innate part of who we are and at the root of the desire to be heard, is the greater desire to be loved.
The Psalmist in Psalm 116 speaks of the Lord as a wonderful listener, one who has inclined His ear to me. The Lord always inclines His ear towards us. He is always ready to listen. Why? Because He loves us. He created us and wants us to come to Him with our every concern. He wants to hear when we are having a great day, a bad day or an average day. He is crazy about us! He thinks about us all the time and longs to hear from us. Since He always inclines His ear towards us, all we have to do is start talking. And, we can rest assured, every time we talk with Him, we come away realizing how much He loves us!
Oh Lord, we are amazed at how available you are to us. It speaks of how very much you love us. Holy Spirit, prompt us to take the time to talk to the Lord this week. We know, that as we do this, we will love Him all the more. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
I pray that you have a great week of talking to the Lord. May you be ever so mindful of how eager He is to listen. I pray that you will fall deeper in love with Jesus, because of the time you have spent communing with Him.
